Professor Xi Zhiyong, head of the Wolbaki team, was invited to attend the summit. During the panel discussion on “Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR),” he highlighted new Wolbachia-based technologies for the control of vector-borne diseases, shared practical outcomes and future application prospects of this technology within the One Health framework, and garnered significant attention from attendees for its eco-friendly biological control solution (Figs. 2, 3).

Distinguished guests at the event included Mr Emmanuel Macron (President of the French Republic), Mr Antonio Guterres (Secretary-General of the United Nations), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO)), Mr Qu Dongyu (Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO)), and Dr Richard Horton (Editor-in-Chief, The Lancet), among other global health leaders, who joined forces to advance the development of a more resilient global public health system.
After concluding his schedule at the “One Health” Summit in Lyon, Professor Xi Zhiyong traveled to Montpellier, France, on April 8, 2026, at the invitation of the CIRAD (Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement), where he delivered a keynote presentation titled “Large-Scale Application of the Sterile Insect Technique and the Incompatible Insect Technique" at the “Optimoustik” international workshop. This workshop served as an official side event of the main summit in Lyon and aimed to explore pathways for advancing mosquito control technologies from a “One Health” perspective.
This appearance at a high-level international summit not only represents international recognition of the Wolbaki’s technical achievements, but also lays a solid foundation for deepening international cooperation and advancing the global fight against vector-borne diseases.
